Proven Success
The Chinese Language Institute (CLI), an official affiliate of Guangxi Normal University (GXNU), connects students and faculty worldwide with China’s incredible culture. Since its founding in March 2009, CLI has hosted over 350 students from 25 countries worldwide and has counted Israeli diplomats and over 40 Peace Corps China volunteers among its students. More than 45 universities have been represented at CLI to date, including Harvard, Yale, Oxford, UPenn, Columbia and MIT.

Due to
strong reception among students and faculty partners alike, we've experienced great word-of-mouth promotion and, in January 2011, expanded into our own 5-story learning center.

In early 2012, Frommer's travel guide said of CLI: "We recommend the Chinese Language Institute in Guilin as one of the best places in the country to work on your Mandarin skills."

An Extensive Educational Network
With broad-based connections throughout many of China’s major cities and a deep knowledge of the inner workings of Chinese society, CLI has a unique ability to create educational curricula for nearly all audiences. Over the past several years, CLI has organized roundtable discussions with management at GE China, MTV China, Amazon.com, and Sinopec, as well as countless additional small- to mid-sized companies. CLI also regularly organizes events, meetings and activities at universities and government bureaus throughout China.

Countless Relationships throughout Guilin
CLI’s international and local teams have forged valuable relationships with countless individuals and organizations throughout the city of Guilin.  With CLI’s extensive network and personalized assistance as a platform, students and visiting faculty have opportunities to explore nearly every aspect of Chinese society.

In Guilin, CLI has direct connections with each of the following:
professors in every department of GXNU, several grade school principals, hotel managers, factory directors, government officials, restaurant owners, photography studio owners, prominent tourism agencies, the Guilin Tourism Bureau, the Guilin Urban Planning Bureau, the Guilin Central Broadcast TV station, orphanages and other charity establishments, outdoor adventure companies, real estate professionals, local Daoist and Buddhist leaders, traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, yoga instructors, Qigong masters, calligraphy experts and more.

A Strong Network throughout Greater China
CLI works closely with US-based institutions and individuals to implement programs throughout all of China.  Each of the below well-established relationships can be utilized by visiting student and faculty groups.

Throughout greater China, CLI has direct connections with each of the following:
MTV China (located in Beijing), Amazon.com's China headquarters, Peking University and Tsinghua University (widely considered China’s top two universities), one of China’s largest English training organization (Crazy English), an engine factory in southern Guangxi, a prominent Hong Kong law firm, the Columbian Embassy in China, a plastics recycling center, several Buddhist and Daoist monasteries, the mayor, vice mayor, former mayor, Communist party representative and town elder of the famed Ping’an rice terraces, and more.

Making the Most of Relationships
Out of each of the aforementioned relationships, the Chinese Language Institute arranges cross-cultural interaction and learning at every level.  To list a few, CLI students visit local kindergartens and high schools, chat with Daoist priests over herbal tea, attend live concert screenings at MTV Beijing, practice Qigong with lifelong adherents, and participate in roundtable discussions with highly successful entrepreneurs.  Ultimately, it is the interests of our students and vision of our faculty leaders that guide CLI's capabilities.

Highly Personalized Chinese Language Training
While CLI offers a wide range of services, our strongest capability is centered in Chinese language education.  Students of nearly all ages and backgrounds have greatly benefited from the Chinese Language Institute’s unique approach to proficiency training.  While one-on-one coursework is at the core of our educational philosophy, we greatly build upon this by way of integrated housing opportunities, weekly activities, monthly travel excursions, English-taught humanities courses, a vibrant and integrated learning community, 24/7 assistance and more.
