For many future CLI students, the practical question is simple: which entry route fits a short program in Guilin?
Possibly, for some nationalities. China's visa-free policies are now a major part of how international travelers enter the country. They cover study tours of up to 30 days but not regular study, so the answer depends on your passport, how long your program is, and what kind of trip it is.

Study tours are the exception. China's official guidance says that study tours (研学, yánxué), such as summer or winter camps, of up to 30 days are within the visa-free policy. If your CLI program is 30 days or less, visa-free entry may be possible for some nationalities as a short study tour. Ask us and we'll check your route. CLI welcomes short-term learners, and the X2 student visa is always an option for them too.
Study tours of up to 30 days are within the visa-free policy; regular study is not. However you enter China, please answer every question at the border truthfully. We are not able to advise anyone on what to write on an arrival card. If you would like more certainty, the X2 student visa is made for study.
