  • Overview: The Blake School 2024 Taiwan Seminar will include a three-week exploration of Taiwan's diverse social centers: Taipei, Taiwan's bustling modern capital; Hualien and Taitung, natural oases situated along the stunning East Coast; and Tainan, the island's ancient cultural heart.
  • Start Date and Location: Saturday, June 15, 2024; Minneapolis, Minnesota to Taipei, Taiwan (group flight details TBA)
  • End Date and Location: Saturday, July 6, 2024; Taipei, Taiwan to Minneapolis, Minnesota (group flight details TBA)

    • Explore Taipei's most beloved cultural sites with a Taiwanese guide
    • Engage with indigenous communities living on the East Coast

Pre-Departure To-Do List

1. (Parents & students) COMPLETE Your CLI ENROLLMENT FORM

Together with your parent/guardian, please complete your Enrollment Form by Thursday, February 15, 2024. Be sure to enter information exactly as it appears (or will appear) in your passport and select "The Blake School | Taiwan Seminar | Summer 2024".

2. (Parents) Complete CLI's Parent/Guardian Waiver

This form is only required of students under the age of 18 as of January 1, 2024. The Parent/Guardian Waiver Form ensures that CLI has the necessary consent and information to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all our students.

Please complete this form by Thursday, February 15, 2024.

3. (parents & Students) Complete Homestay Introduction Form

This is the information your host family will receive about you! It will also be used by The Blake School and CLI to help pair you with your homestay family in Tainan.

Please take your time completing this form and share as much information with your local host family as you would like.

4. (parents & Students) Review Important Health and Travel Information

Please thoroughly review important travel and health information on the following webpages: CDC Taiwan and U.S. State Department Taiwan.

Note that during our travels in Taiwan, our group will be visiting rural areas and engaging in outdoor activities where exposure to Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is possible. According to the Taiwan CDC webpage, JEV transmission intensifies in Taiwan in June and July. Travelers should consider receiving Japanese encephalitis vaccination based on US CDC recommendations.

5. (STUDENTS) Review Your Pre-Departure Reminders PDF

Your CLI Program Manager will email you a detailed pre-departure reminders PDF one month prior to your journey that includes packing, weather, money, and health and safety considerations.

Be sure to review all information carefully and feel free to contact CLI with any additional questions you may have.

6. (STUDENTS) Review CLI’s list of Online Learning Resources

Mandarin is the official language of Taiwan, and a great selection of free Mandarin learning resources is available online.

Please take time to review and familiarize yourself with each of the resources mentioned in CLI’s online learning resources list
