CLI offers need-based and merit-based scholarships of 10 to 20% off tuition for students attending its Immersion Program or Study Abroad in China program in Guilin, China. The scholarship is open to all prospective students.

Overview

What the Scholarship Covers

CLI awards scholarships to students attending the Immersion Program or Study Abroad in China program for four or more weeks. Awards range from 10% to 20% off tuition based on financial need, application quality, and enrollment details.

There is no separate admissions track. To apply, submit the short application described below. The scholarship is intended for students who would not be able to attend without financial support.


Eligibility

Requirements

Minimum Enrollment

You must enroll for at least four weeks. During peak season (May through August), the minimum is eight weeks.

Housing Requirement

Scholarship recipients must select either Private Room at CLI or Homestay. Other housing arrangements are not eligible.

Peak Season

May through August is peak season. Students enrolling during this period for fewer than three months receive a maximum award of 10%.

Award Factors

Award amounts depend in part on housing availability and tuition rates. Your housing selection will factor into the final offer.

How to Apply

Send your application to

Subject line: "CLI Scholarship"

Include a 300 to 500 word essay covering:

  1. Your desired start date, program (Immersion or Study Abroad), and program length
  2. How Chinese language proficiency fits into your personal, professional, and academic goals
  3. How you plan to make the most of your time at CLI

Write your essay in paragraph form (no bullet points or outlines). Write it yourself in your own voice. AI-generated essays are not accepted.

Applications are reviewed on two factors: financial need and academic merit. Be specific and honest. There is no trick to a strong application. Explain clearly why Chinese matters to you and why the financial support would make a difference.


Timeline

Timeline and Deadlines

Apply at least one month before your desired start date. Earlier applications allow more time to plan.

Apply and Get Accepted

Submit your application. CLI's admissions team will review it and send you a scholarship offer.

Submit Your Deposit

Pay your program deposit to secure your spot and accept the scholarship.

Pay Remaining Balance

Your tuition balance is due in full two weeks before your program start date.

Note: Once you accept the scholarship, your program length cannot be shortened. Your start date can be adjusted up until two weeks before your program begins.

15 to 20% off Available to students who demonstrate clear financial need and exceptional potential. Evaluated based on application season, program length, financial need, and application quality.
10% cap During peak season (May through August), students enrolling for fewer than three months are capped at 10%. Peak-season scholarships require a minimum of eight weeks.

All award amounts are tied to the program length stated in your application. If your enrollment is shortened after approval, the scholarship cannot be applied to the shorter duration.
