The CLI Scholarship
CLI offers need-based and merit-based scholarships of 10 to 20% off tuition for students attending its Immersion Program or Study Abroad in China program in Guilin, China. The scholarship is open to all prospective students.
Overview
CLI awards scholarships to students attending the Immersion Program or Study Abroad in China program for four or more weeks. Awards range from 10% to 20% off tuition based on financial need, application quality, and enrollment details.
There is no separate admissions track. To apply, submit the short application described below. The scholarship is intended for students who would not be able to attend without financial support.
Eligibility
You must enroll for at least four weeks. During peak season (May through August), the minimum is eight weeks.
Scholarship recipients must select either Private Room at CLI or Homestay. Other housing arrangements are not eligible.
May through August is peak season. Students enrolling during this period for fewer than three months receive a maximum award of 10%.
Award amounts depend in part on housing availability and tuition rates. Your housing selection will factor into the final offer.
Application
Write your essay in paragraph form (no bullet points or outlines). Write it yourself in your own voice. AI-generated essays are not accepted.
Applications are reviewed on two factors: financial need and academic merit. Be specific and honest. There is no trick to a strong application. Explain clearly why Chinese matters to you and why the financial support would make a difference.
